Library and Office

We have moved
into the space formerly occupied by the Madison County Library,
located in the old Huntsville Community Center at 220 North Gaskill
Street (which is Highway 412). We are located just about ¼ mile
from where our former library was. We have almost doubled
our space and we are thrilled with our new library space.
Please stop by and take a look.

The library is staffed by volunteers.

Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on
Monday thru Friday (March thru October),
Tuesday thru Thursday (November thru February).

The library contains a large collection of Madison County history,
including the printed census for every decade from 1840 through 1920
(except 1890), 150 family history books, homestead and Civil War records,
Madison County Record newspapers on microfilm from about 1900 to 1994,
information on cemeteries with a wall map showing their location,
and an ongoing obituary file on index cards taken from the newspapers.

Membership is from January through December of each year.

Dues are as follows:

New Member............................................$15.00
Renewal Paid before March 1st...............$15.00
Renewal Paid After March 1st................$17.50

Members receive four issues of "The Musings" in each year.

Society's Quarterly Publication

"THE MADISON COUNTY MUSINGS" is published quarterly
for members of the Society. It includes articles, pedigree charts, family
histories and queries relevant to Madison County.

The Society has a number of publications for sale.

Lookup Policy

If you send a written letter to the following address, stating what information
you are searching for, the MCGHS corresponding secretary will let you know
what information is available on the names you are searching for. We can
supply you with up to 5 copies free of charge; after that, there is a
20 cents per page copy cost, plus postage.
