"Combs' Station is so named in honor of Capt. H. Combs, the postmaster, and former owner of the site of the village. The business of Elliott & Thompson, now Jones & Thompson; of Pickens & Hiller, and of Allen & Cartner, respectively, general merchants, has been established since the opening of the railroad in 1887. Hurst & Hansburg are engaged in the drug business. There are two steam saw-mills here." (Goodspeeds' History of Madison County...)
